Now Available to Order: Hardcoregaming 101.net Presents: The Guide To Classic Graphic Adventures

After two and a half years, it's finally done - Hardcoregaming 101.net Presents: The Guide To Classic Graphic Adventures is now ready to order!

As of current, the book is only available through the Createspace Store, and should be showing up on Amazon within a week or two, since it takes a little bit of time for them to register with the database. Since one of the reasons I wanted to use Amazon was due to its cheaper shipping, I've enabled a coupon code - use DN84NDUU for a $3.59 credit, which will cover the cheapest shipping to the US. It will ship internationally, and the prices aren't too bad - it looks to be about $7 to Europe or so, before the discount. I'll update to links to Amazon when they become available. The Kindle version isn't yet available, since the whole book requires drastic reformatting for it to look proper - it uses tables for the "info boxes" with the box cover, which unfortunately the Kindle seems to hate! But it will be available soon!

At any rate, I'm extremely excited to offer this book to you guys. It's taken a whole ton of work, but the book's absolutely massive (772 pages, over 390,000 words) with hundreds of screenshots, reviews of over 300 games - ranging from quick capsules reviews to fairly in-depth analyses - and is essential reading to anyone who grew up on LucasArts, Sierra, or other similar games and wants to learn more about them. I hope you enjoy it, and hopefully you will be seeing more books from HG101 in the future!

  4. As a European, I think $7 is actually really, really cheap. That's only £4.30. Pretty good for such a heavy item!

  5. A release in bookdepository would be great too. They don't charge shipping, what is wonderful! Amazon have expensive shipping to Brazil, and just doesn't ship some books to here. I never had any problem with bookdepository.

Anyway I'll buy it soon. I'm sure that this is an amazing book, and I'm very excited to read it.

  6. Congrats on finally getting this out.

Will these articles eventually make their way to the website, or will they be book exclusive?

And any other future projects planned?

  7. The larger ones - King's Quest, Zork, The Journeyman Project, The Chzo Mythos - will make their way on to the site eventually. There are a number of lesser-known-but-interesting games which are fairly unique that will probably be posted too, at some point. But there are several mediocre-to-bad games that the book covers for the sake of comprehensiveness and I'm not sure I can find a place for them on the site proper, at least unless we do a comprehensive look at games based on Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure.

I'm still figuring out what to do for future projects. This book is fantastic but it was really exhausting, and I'm not sure if I can do something on the same scale, at least for the moment. I'm split between doing something focusing on Konami, books that focus on the most interesting games on a specific platform, a smaller "introduction" book to various genres, or just a compilation digest of HG101 articles, bundled together in some type of theme. I'll probably do one of each at some point, gauge some interest and see how they sell, and go down that route.
