The PS2 Devil Summoners Seem to Have Been Reprinted

Atlus has done a pretty decent job in keeping all of the Shin Megami Tensei titles in print - you can find copies of Persona 3 and 4, Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne and Digital Devil Saga all for around $30-$40 on Amazon, keeping them from following down the path of a Suikoden II. Nevertheless, the one subseries whose prices has climbed has been the Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha series, the action-RPG offshot that takes place around the turn of the previous century. The first game had reached prices of up to $80, with the second game not far behind.

Well, no longer, because reprints have begun showing up at Amazon and other places, priced at $30 new or less. These include Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha versus The Soulless Army and Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner 2: Raidou Kuzunoha versus King Abaddon. It's probably to help tie in with the release Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers coming out in a few weeks, though from both a thematic and gameplay standout they have very little in common. But nonetheless, everyone interested in them should check them out now.

If you can only afford one, go for the second one. Both games share many identical assets, but the second one is far, far more polished.

  1. Cheers for the heads up on Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner 2: Raidou Kuzunoha versus King Abaddon's price drop. I've been waiting for this to happen weeks ago when I bought the 1st one.

  2. Been wanting to start the Shin Megami Tensei series and these were the most attractive games apart from Soul Hackers, but unfortunately the price kept scaring me away. Good to hear I have a second chance.

  3. Ah, nuts, I already picked these up for a hefty price. Oh well. What's done is done.

  4. Thanks, I am glad Atlus is keeping up on this shit. I need to replace my copy of Nocturne, actually; I got the version with the soundtrack in perfect condition for $10 from a local pawn shop and I needed money badly so I sold it on ebay and it ended up going for $130 during one of the game's long periods of not being in print. I miss that game so very much, I had put 100 hours into it. It's the only RPG I've ever played where I actually died. I seriously don't know what a Game Over screen looks like in Xenogears, Chrono Trigger, or any Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest game, but Nocturne had some hard moments!

I was disappointed though when trying to sell the non-Fes Persona 3 with the art book and soundtrack and I ended up not even being able to sell it despite 2 ebay listings and the game being in great condition. I kinda hate Persona 3 -- boring-ass game. These games look amazing though.

Are you guys planning on covering Devil Survivor 2? It's the most fun I've had with a DS game since Theresia Dear Emile.

  6. Alright, cool. I've got all of the PS2 SMT games except for the two Devil Summoner games. It looks like I'll be able to get them both without selling my left nut, after all!
