E.X. Troopers - over 350 screens in HD

With Capcom deciding not to localise E.X. Troopers for the west, and with it only selling 26K copies in Japan, compared to the 220K which Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 reached during the same week, I'm puttingonline over 350 hi-def screenshots which I've taken. The game deserves more recognition than it's had. For me, E.X. Troopers was my GOTY of 2012. The controls were tight, the action fast and intense, the progression system balanced and fun, with plenty of post-game content. The visual style is also gorgeous. In several ways the game reminds me of Burning Rangers for the Saturn. The online multiplayer never seemed to work, but even so, the game is fantastic. If you own a PS3 you should import it.

These screens are for anyone who wants them. Use them to create a detailed translation Wiki or FAQ. Use them for reviews, previews or Capcom campaigns. I don't really care. I might use some of them for an article on Hardcore Gaming 101, and I might not. But for Japan only releases it can be difficult to find decent quality screenshots without watermarks. Consider these my gift to the internet. They include character profiles, food items, weapons, tutorial instructions, cut-scenes, gameplay, and a guide for the 10 question quiz, plus miscellaneous. I didn't get EVERYTHING, but I think got enough. Apologies for some of the screens being too dark - you'll need to use an art package to brighten these. I only realised a few hours in that my capture device makes everything too dark if more than one console is plugged into it. Lesson learned for the future! I hope these are of some use. Do what you will with them. The ZIP file is hosted courtesy of Alan Stringer, AKA Dandy Sephy online. Many thanks to him for helping out!

  1. It's a pity you didn't get to try the online versus, I was surprised by how fun it was.

It's not my favorite game of 2012 (that would be Danganronpa 2) but it certainly is quite good, and it's a shame most people who tried it didn't like it.

    1. People who tried the demo, it had a low rating on PSN and the general opinion on 2ch/other Japanese sites wasn't that great. I guess it was mainly people who expected something similar to Lost Planet, and also people who think the graphics are shit because it's a 3DS port.

Most people who actually bought it seemed to be satisfied with it though.

  3. Wow! An article from Sketcz finally worth reading!

I totally agree with you, I was really hyped by this game when it was announced and I followed all the promo an stuff. And then, the bad news came: it won't be released in Europe! Good games on Euro 3DS are so rare and then don't even import this gem!

Let's not forget its soundtrack, either.

It's a really lovely, pristine mix of electropop, trance, and techno.

  4. Gotta say, seeing that out of 350 screenshots, the one you picked to show is the main character dressed down with three women bent before him, camera on their asses, I'm not really interested in getting the rest. :\

    Otherwise, thanks for your work.

    1. So sensitive.

Based on numbers alone (I haven't seen the screenshots), I'd say there's a good chance of the other 349 not being like that. The bets are on.

  5. This is some really good stuff. BTW, I just recently bought a
cabinet and the joysticks and screens are great. People should go and see it

  7. Still works for me:

Obviously the other 349 *mostly* are not fanservice. Many of them are menus and tutorials. Some are chara profiles. The biggest quantity is gameplay shots and boss battles.

  8. Thanks for this. There are so many things I liked about this game, and really disappointed as it did so poorly. It's not perfect, but definitely a fun game deserving of more attention than it got..

  9. Just got this game yesterday and enjoyed it a lot.

I have a handful of theories as to why this didn't do too well in the local Japanese scene.

*When you talk manga/anime style (since the title boasts a dynamic comic presentation), the persisting corollary rule (because moe is still a driving force in the industry) is that the female character populace should outnumber the males. Not so here.

To most local fans these days, more guys = BL fan fodder.

It should be noted that 2ch's #1 favorite anime of 2012 was Girls Und Panzer. Enough said.

*Introducing a newish tech/mech game to any age group other than kids/preteens usually backfires. The older fogeys will usually be Gundam/Macross loyalists, after all.

This is just the conclusions I've come to after skulking all Japanese sites with topics related to this title, and may not be entirely accurate.
